Lex Stratum was founded by Calum Stacey, an experienced former General Counsel.
Calum spent over a decade working in-house with several multi-national energy companies, including TotalEnergies where he headed up the legal department of its UK downstream business. During Calum’s time at TotalEnergies, the UK affiliate:
Achieved its highest annual turnover of £668m;
Owned and operated 2 industrial blending sites and 1 railhead site;
Managed interests in 8 incorporated joint ventures that own and operate key infrastructure supplying fuel to the south-east of England; and
Acquired a 1,500+ charge point B2C public EV charging network; and
divested the Lindsey Oil Refinery after more than 50 years of ownership.
Whilst at TotalEnergies, Calum was the TotalEnergies UK DPO, Compliance Officer and Country Ethics Vice President. His remit covered group companies with an annual turnover of over £10bn, annual capital investments of c. £500M-£1bn, and c. 1,500+ employees. Between 2019 and 2021, Calum also served as TotalEnergies appointed director to the six incorporated joint-ventures operating the airport critical fuelling infrastructure at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.
Calum left TotalEnergies in 2022 to join Shoosmiths. At Shoosmiths, Calum led the expansion of the firm’s commercial team into the Scottish market (achieving seven figure growth over 2 years) and worked closely with firm management to build out Shoosmiths’ UK Energy & Infrastructure division, as the firm won UK Law Firm of the Year in 2023.
